WNY Building – Lead Paint Removal

Lead Paint Removal

When working on historic structures like the Navy Yard building, Our team comes across buildings that contain toxic chemicals like lead paint. For both our team and the occupants of the building, lead paint poses serious health risks if it is not properly removed and discharged. Apro Enterprise was hired to remove lead paint from a historic building in a Navy Yard. The building, which was constructed in the early 20th century, required significant renovations and modernization, but the Contractors were extremely concerned about the lead paint.

Planning

A project plan was vital before we could start the removal process. This involved coordinating with other contractors who would be working on the project and acquiring the required permits. We also had to make sure that we had all of the tools and gear we needed, such as respirators, safety gear, and specialized vacuums. Furthermore, our team was trained and certified in lead-safe work practices in accordance with EPA guidelines to ensure that the job was completed safely and efficiently.

Execution

In order to prevent anyone from unintentionally entering the lead-painted areas of the building, we started by thoroughly isolating them. We did this by covering the affected areas with plastic sheeting and warning tape.
While to reduce the risk of exposure, we then removed the hazardous materials with extreme care. The Team adhered to strict EPA lead paint removal guidelines, which included the use of specialized vacuums and wetting agents to keep paint chips and dust from becoming airborne. Before, during, and after the paint removal process, we also set up negative air machines to filter out any hazardous particles.

Challenges

To prevent the removal’s noise and dust from interfering with their routines, we had to work around their schedules because The building was still being used by the Navy, which was one of the biggest obstacles we had to overcome during the removal process. To mitigate risks, we scheduled our work during off-hours, set up temporary barriers, and used industrial-strength vacuums.

Result

After the lead paint was removed, the building was safe and healthy and was prepared for the following stage of renovation. It was a big job, but our team was up to it, and we finished it on time and on budget while adhering to the Navy’s strict guidelines and regulations.

Conclusion

Safety is a top priority for Apro Enterprise, both for our team and for everyone inside the building. We take pride in our ability to manage dangerous materials like lead paint in old buildings, and we look forward to working on many more demanding and fulfilling projects down the road.
